The Future of Healthcare

2020 will be remembered mainly for the chaos, disruption and suffering due to the global Covid-19 pandemic. It will also be remembered as the year that accelerated innovation, creation, and change in the healthcare industry. As covid-19 spread around the globe, disrupting every facet of life, the traditional healthcare industry was forced to adapt under pressure and reinvent itself. The adoption of telehealth, telemedicine, and virtual care, have changed the healthcare landscape and has the potential to create a new standard of healthcare.

The world is a viral paradise where epidemics can thrive under the right conditions. We have learned in 2020 reactions to an epidemic must be urgent and based on scientific research and discovery. A crisis exposes what is broken and through innovation we can solve any problem.

Society has a vested interest to ensure all people have access to the healthcare they need. Covid-19 exacerbated and illuminated the racial and economic disparities that existed in serving underrepresented communities. Investments in technology coupled with new ways of integrative care can decrease the care gap and provide significant improvement in patient interaction and outcomes.

Over the next few weeks, we will present a series of articles highlighting the technology and companies driving innovation in the healthcare and wellness industry. Topics of interest will include wearable technologies, remote monitoring, virtual care, mental and behavioral health, and point of care tools and software. I look forward to sharing many of the innovations and technologies driving the healthcare industry; and for everyone to live better and longer lives.
